AI Delivery Systems

AI Delivery Systems

Since inception of AI, the technology has considerably evolved from use of liquid semen to use of frozen semen for insemination of breedable cattle and buffalo population in the country. The technology is being routinely used for breeding of dairy animals which has resulted in considerable increase in the AI coverage of breedable bovines. AI delivery system has transformed from insemination at the AI Centres to door step delivery.

An Artificial Insemination (AI) service following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and delivered at farmers’ doorstep is central to scientific animal breeding activities. The acceptance of the very idea of AI has given momentum for the development of other technologies like cryopreservation and sexing of semen, embryo harvesting, and freezing, etc.

The SOP for AI includes identification of every inseminated animal and all female calves born using an ear tag with unique number; use of semen from only ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade semen station ; all data to be recorded in prescribed format;. Through its various training centres, NDDB also provides professional training to AI technicians and professionals.
